Mathematical modeling of hydromechanics, water quality, and ecology of
natural and managed hydrosystems, hydrology, atmosphere-hydrosphere
interactions, environmental quality management, transport and fate of
hazardous substances in surface and ground waters, ecological modeling,
design and application of computer-aided support systems for environmental
decision making, application of models in management of water quality and
ecology in surface waters, including rivers, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries
and the coastal environment.

o Salinity management in irrigated agriculture; San Joaquin Basin,
Salton Basin, New and Alamo river systems
o Modeling temperature and salinity effects on aquatic species;
Sacramento and Feather river systems, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
o Optimal allocation of limited water resources;
Tahoe-Truckee-Pyramid lake system, Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys
o Decision support for assessment of combined stresses on ecosystems;
Sacramento River, Delta and San Francisco Bay, Klamath River
o Modeling thermal stratification, and water quality in lakes,
reservoirs and coastal waters; Salton Sea, Clear Lake, Whiskeytown, Shasta,
Oroville and Iron Gate reservoirs, Bay-Delta system

PUBLICATIONS

Author and/or co-author of more than 200 contributions to technical and
scientific literature in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings,
and books. Topics include mathematical modeling of hydrodynamics, water
quality and ecology of natural and managed hydrosystems, hydrology,
atmosphere-hydrosphere interactions, environmental quality management,
transport and fate of hazardous substances in surface and ground waters,
